Hi, I’m Katie.
I’m a music educator, choral conductor, performer, and private voice teacher passionate about helping singers discover what their voices are capable of doing.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (Vocal) from Michigan State University, and am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting at Oakland University.
My professional life has allowed me to experience music from many perspectives- as a classroom teacher, conductor, private instructor, musical theater director, chorister, and performer.
I currently teach middle school choral music and have extensive experience working with developing adolescent voices. I’ve participated in numerous opera productions, performed with professional choral ensembles throughout Metro Detroit, worked on junior musical theater productions, and have had the opportunity to perform as a backup vocalists for artists including Josh Groban and Jennifer Hudson.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe there is no single “correct” beautiful voice. Every singer brings a different instrument, personality, background, and musical perspective into the room. My role is not to replace those qualities, but to give singers the technique and musicianship they need to use their voice freely, confidently, and sustainably.
Lessons should also be a place where it’s okay to experiment.
Students are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, try something differently, laugh, take artistic risks, and learn how their own voices work.
Ultimately, I want my students to leave not only as stronger singers, but as more independent musicians who trust themselves.
Voice Lessons
Find your voice. Build your confidence.
Private voice lessons are individualized to each singer’s voice, experience, interests, and goals. My goal is to help students develop healthy vocal technique while becoming confident, independent musicians.
Healthy Vocal Technique
Breath coordination, resonance, range, registration, flexibility, and sustainable singing habits.
Repertoire and Performance
Musical theatre, classical, contemporary, and choral repertoire with an emphasis on expression, interpretation, and storytelling.
Audition Preparation
Individualized coaching for musicals, solos, honors choir, college auditions, and other performance opportunities
Your Questions, Answered
My primary area of expertise is working with middle and high school singers, from students taking their very first voice lesson to experienced young musicians preparing for auditions and performances.
No previous voice lesson experience is required!
I have also worked with adult singers, beginner and experienced, and welcome adult inquires when scheduling and individual goals are a good fit.
